Cool, I’m always interested in hearing different views on how people run safely!
If you put your arms to the side, there’s a constant strain on the shoulders, traps and the neck. Just let the arms hang and let them do what they want to do.
- foam rolling does wonders (for me anyway). Do this before the heavy stretching.
- do heavier static stretching afterwords (multiple 30-60 min holds). If you don’t know how to stretch, buy a book or look up videos.
- get a full 8 hours of sleep for recovery, maybe even 10hrs on workout days.
- eat a healthy diet (protein/fat/carbs), making sure you’re getting enough calcium/magnesium/Vit. D. Quality supplements do work. Maybe even start taking a joint supplement or bone supplement.
I also made mistakes when I started jogging, and here’s what I’ve picked up along the way:
- you need to start slow to acclimate your body to the new stresses.
- jog every other day to begin with (don’t jog if still sore), giving your body (bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons) rest to repair.
- start with a 5-10 min. walk/jog to break a small sweat, then do some lite stretching.
– Jog using proper form. Have a friend record you jogging, then post and critique it online.
had the same problem. couldnt run for like 2-3 weeks
Thank you!!!
Yes, I’ve just realized how important stretching actually is.
So far, the pain i my right leg has eased up a bit after resting and icing it for a week or two.
I think that maybe i did too much to begin with, or didn’t stretch and warm up properly??
yes warmup stretching prior to jogging is important.
otherwise see a doctor. Do dot strain yourself. They comeback with age.
Yeah but my right lower leg aches at times…
I’ve been told it’s a shin splint, and that i should stretch it and ice it often!
might be you are jogging too far at first. I shorten your distance at first and jog 2 sessions. then you can also drink salt tablets to retain water.
one thing he did not mention, do not close your fists when you jog, for proper blood circulation.
LOL!!
cut them off !!!
sometimes I run with my hands down haha, like if im wearing a sweatshirt and its cold.
uhmmm… what if you run around like…
Captain Jack Sparrow style?
Hey when i go jogging after a few mins my ankles start to hurt really bad and it makes me stop
how can i prevent this from happing??
I know this guy knows his stuff, but how much do you need to know to jog? I wish more men would jog in running tights! Yay!
hey man, i keep getting that pain, its called a “shinsplint” they suck, I cant stop them either no matter how much stretching i do or how i run. Worth looking into tho
Cool vid thanks.
I’m only jogging a few weeks…But i keep getting this pain mainly in my lower shins.
